South Korean season, I suppose. I thought the monster design was great as well - unusual but not as silly as the balloon-cheeked fucker of Cloverfield.

A bleak film, and the least of Chan-Wook's revenge trilogy. Old Boy is more spectacularly baroque (plus it features my favourite fight scene of all time) and Lady Vengence is just as beautiful and has a better story.

Nice review. Oldboy's still Park's most notorious film to date though. And don't forget about Sympathy For Lady Vengeance!

I saw this and loved it until it I got so confused I didn't know what was happening anymore. Then I lost interest and didn't care who survived.

This is insanely brutal. The whipping sequence is like a rebuke to all other whipping scenes ever shot.

Also, Ray Winstone is a well known incredible bastard in the UK. See 'Scum' for further evidence. But also don't see it - it's probably more brutal than this.
